25 October 2009 - The Michael Orton Effect

The Michael Orton effect is essentially applied to a photo by taking 2 copies of the same image. With one you use Photoshop or other image editing software and overexpose the image and also add a blur to it. With the remaining image you add brightness to the image. Then to get the MO effect you use software such as Photomatix Pro to fuse the 2 images together.

There is an interview with Michael Orton on the the California Photography Blog.

And there is a 'How to Orotonize Your images' here.

25 October 2009 - High Dynamic Range Photography

High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography is the result of merged images of the same shot taken at different exposure levels from underexposed to overexposed. You can use Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB) if your camera supports this technology. By using AEB the camera can take several consecutive shots of the same image at different exposure levels automatically.

Once you have the images you can use software such as Photomatix Pro to merge and tone-map the images into one image. The effect can be pretty amazing. There is more information and tutorials about HDR and Photomatix Pro on the http://www.hdrsoft.com/ website.

My collection of HDR photography can be see here. And I have an HDR Calendar as well.

15 October 2009 - About

Born and raised in the beautiful Adelaide Hills and currently living in Sydney. One of the things I enjoy is the countryside of the Adelaide Hills. It would be great to return there one day.

I love minimalist and industrial design and art. I also love nature, the Australian Bush and life the way things unfold before you. I enjoy doing portraiture photography and also experimental photography like HDR and other techniques which I've picked up from other RedBubblers. I visually experience much beauty in life and love photography's ability to capture some of it for contemplation and appreciation.

The following is a quote I found in my readings which I really like:

"Life is change, change is constant Learning is ongoing Enjoy the journey Learn to know yourself, believe in yourself Follow your heart and have some fun!"
